Upload for the first WCNL video is taking a little longer than expected, and fatigue is setting in, so it’s getting pushed to tomorrow. Came up with a couple of ideas, swept up communication, and got my first theme tweak committed (small, but a start).

Also: working on a blog post regarding the new oEmbed functionality and may have some questions about that later.

Can we get a small tweak to the WordPress.tv blog theme? Unordered lists are a little crazy with margins.

I can fix it, but someone will have to show me the process for implementing those kinds of changes.

Regarding helping people get the difference between .com and .org tutorials: what if we leveraged the “gray for .org / blue for .com” paradigm that exists in the favicons for each and found a way to implement that in the design? (Videos would of course still need some descriptive text to make it clear.)

You’d run into issues with anything that was broad enough to cover both systems, but it would be a decent way to visually identify one from the other.

We talked at one point about replacing the existing thumbnails with the relevant icon (given that the current thumbnails aren’t wildly exciting with all of the screencast content we have up). I think visual indicators, as you’ve suggested, could definitely play a useful role here any thoughts on the where and how? Down the line, I think greater differentiation at the navigation level would be helpful. Get people to the right place, fast. This could also play a role in the courses/playlists we’ve discussed below.

We also need to cover the fact that some videos cover *both* platforms. Maybe a split color icon or something.

Is there anyone who can give me a crash course in how design changes are handled? Some of the tweaks that come up might be within my capability to implement.

Fixing up the layout for our video pages in lieu of some bigger plans. The language sort functionality is temporarily disabled until we work out a custom taxonomy bug.

Tweaked the blog design just a hair. Going to take a few more minutes to try and finish up some more visual fixes.

Going analog today as I thrash out the First 100k animation, then back to some more digital experimentation. Maybe we’ll get to premiere it at WC SF :) This is feeding into the aesthetic of a new batch of tutorials I’m planning for WordPress.tv that move out of the screencast ghetto
