We should get the WC 2008 videos off of Viddler.

      Grabbing them now.

There are a handful of posts from early in WPTV that are SlideShare embeds instead of videos – any objections if I dump those while I’m back there?

    • Matt 1:52 pm on July 8, 2010 Permalink | Reply

No but let’s link to Slideshare where possible.

ETA on SF stuff? I’m still the only one up it looks like.

It’s about 75% encoded and the beginning of publishing I had queued up for after the OC video was up, which would place it about mid-next week.

I can push some of it earlier if you would like – is there a particular video or videos you’d like up first?

I’ve got it drafted, but the Vimeo embed doesn’t seem to be working correctly. I’ll be checking it out tomorrow.

I’m VideoPressing this one right now and it will be up today and in the featured block.

There’s a lot of stuff in the incoming directory, it should probably be trimmed.

    MP, I’m uploading six videos, 4 mini-interviews, 1 b-roll, 1 blooper. Video is from the new D3S. :)

Could you collate them into one video as a high priority (probably ending with Ryan’s comment ;) )? Feel free to mix up or remove some questions/answers. Jane’s going to do a wrap-up post tomorrow and it’d be good to have this as part of the blog post.

Also let me know if you have any videography tips for future things I shoot.

When it’s all done it should go on the http://wpdotorg.wordpress.com/ blog.

I’ll finish cleaning out incoming tomorrow; just need to make sure I have all the Kyoto video sorted properly.

The D3S video looks super-good, btw.

How would you guys feel about a WP.tv redesign? :)

    • Michael Pick 5:06 pm on October 14, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I think I can safely say that we would feel just splendid :)

We discussed some thoughts on where things might be improved from a usability point of view with Jane a while back, and we’ve been getting lots of thoughtful user feedback lately – would be great to put some of that into action. Awesome, in fact.

Also – I think this would be a great opportunity to integrate a new look for video content presentation with a new look (and some functional goodies) for the site. I’m planning on putting together a shiny new template system to streamline and polish up the look and usefulness of the videos – would be awesome to have a site-content symbiosis/identity system.

Ok, end ramble, but yes indeed – this is music to my ears :)

I would love it. We started working on a proposal for it a while back with a bunch of ideas (phased in high/medium/low priority) that would take very little work to tidy up and use as a starting point for discussion.

      • Michael Pick 1:35 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Absolutely – I think paring down and shaping up the three phases into a design brief sounds like the way forward. Maybe we can arrange another chat after the meet-up? I’m good whenever works for you

      I say, “How can I help?” :)

      Very exciting.

Rocks doesn’t it? Maybe if you get chance could you compile some of that recent end-user blow-by-blow feedback we were talking about? Hopefully we’ll all pick things up where we left off to narrow down what’s new, see if anything’s changed, and get things streamlined and ready to brief

I’m going to go through the email archive to find some of the more direct stuff; yes.

My thoughts are we should probably leave WordPress.tv as going with WordCamp videos and announcements and stuff, but shift the educational screencasts to something new that’s like a combination of a WP.com handbook + videos, going back to our original intention of educating people Kathy Sierra-style. I want a narrative, a beginning, middle, and end.

Longer term WP.tv should be revisited directly.

      • Michael Pick 7:36 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Stoked about this – lots of food for thought in our chat. Very happy about the refocus towards the head first-esque user centric narrative arc approach i’ve been banging on about. This has great repercussions for how the videos can integrate and be used alongside text and images in the same style, voice and feel.

I would like you guys to post a featured video to the @wordpress Twitter account three times a week, say Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Let me know if you need the login details there. (This is a public P2.)

Idea: Someone at WordCamp Birmingham said that WordPress is just like an iPhone, whatever you can imagine “there’s a plugin for that.” Could we turn this into a spoof video?

    • Michael Pick 7:06 am on September 29, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Sure :) Might be a nice way to showcase a few top plugins alongside the spoof/humor aspect. Like it.

      • Heather 3:11 pm on October 22, 2009 Permalink | Reply

More interest in a “there’s a plugin for that” video.

Wow, we have a meme on our hands :) Will perhaps give this a crack early next week then :)

I would like to see a video for adding your WordPress blog to your Facebook through their notes feature.

    • Ryan Markel 12:55 am on July 20, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Head start–basic steps to accomplish this (for scripting):
      Log in to Facebook.
In the top navigation, go to Settings > Account Settings.
Find the entry for Notes and click on the application title/icon to the left.
On the screen that follows, there’s a sidebar labeled Notes Settings. It should say underneath “You are not importing notes from an external blog.” Click on the “Import a blog” link underneath that text.
Enter the URL of the blog you want to import to the Notes feature into the blank provided and check the checkbox underneath telling Facebook that you’re being a good boy or girl by importing only your own, inoffensive, legal blog. (You need only enter the URL; Facebook will automatically detect the RSS feed location.
Click “Start Importing”. You’ll be taken to a preview of what the imported content will look like.
Scroll down to the bottom of the preview, and if you’re happy with what you just saw, click the button labeled “Confirm Import”.
      All done!

Lists don’t show up in comments like they do in posts in P2?

        • Michael Pick 3:00 am on July 20, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Re: lists – when I checked the source I couldn’t see any ULs, OLs, Lis, etc. Maybe they’re stripped in comments?

      • Michael Pick 2:59 am on July 20, 2009 Permalink | Reply

        Thanks, Ryan – much appreciated

    • Michael Pick 2:58 am on July 20, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Sure, will add to this to the list. Also, will look into whether you can fake an account/name these days – my Facebook account is long since deactivated.
